Well, I finally got my website up and running. I probably would have been able to get this done sooner if I wasn’t such a perfectionist, wasn’t looking for a job, or not moving into a new house. Its been crazy these last few weeks and I’ll get into it later but, for now, let me tell you about my site…
The site is hosted by a dedicated Debian (Linux) server purchased from SeverPronto, the cheapest dedicated servers you can buy on the internet. So far I’ve been mostly satisfied, except for the fact that I believe that the box they gave me has a bad hard drive since half the time during a reboot it can’t mount the main partition. That and the default install comes with everything installed. I prefer lean OSs that have only the most minimal of set of tools installed. So, I had to uninstall a lot of stuff. Once I got the box where I wanted it, I installed the latest builds of Apache 2.0, PHP 5, and MySQL 5.
The website uses Wordpress to power the blog and most of the site. I spent about three weeks designing and developing my own custom theme for my website. Overall, I have to say it turned out all right. I’m quite impressed I was able to develop something as color coordinated as I did.
You’ll have to bear in mind the site is not finished and will be under construction for awhile. Some of the things that will take me awhile to finish is my about page, which will be essentially an online resume, and the gallery which will showcase all my own photos.
For now, enjoy the site and please send me comments, criticism, and bug reports to me; I enjoy feedback.
Thanks!
